Louisiana flu cases surge; doctors recommend flu shots

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — According to the Centers for Disease Control, the country saw a 33% increase in people testing positive for influenza between Dec. 20 and Dec. 27. This trend in flu cases is also happening here in Louisiana.

“A high number. Urgent care waiting rooms are full E.R. waiting rooms are full. Louisiana’s specifically being affected. We’re beyond red on the CDC influenza activity map. We’re purple, the highest rating,” LCMC Dr. Hector Cabrera said.

Cabrera tells us that the most common strain of influenza he has seen is influenza-A, a different strain than what was common after Thanksgiving.
