Rooted School students earn certifications, and more area school news

ROOTED SCHOOL NEW ORLEANS: Seventeen students at RSNO have earned 20 industry-based Adobe certifications through Rooted’s Photography, Digital Media and Media Arts pathways. Certifications earned include Adobe Photoshop (Photography), Adobe Premiere Pro (Digital Media) and Adobe Animate (Media Arts). Senior Jayden Forde earned certification in Adobe Animate, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro, while sophomore Brennon Thomas earned certifications in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro. Other students earning certifications include seniors Elizabeth Burgos, Jaden C. Bowens, Ethan Clubb, Joevanny Lino and Hailey M. Reid; juniors Kyrell K. Haywood and James L. Young III; sophomores DaiKhiri Buie, Mariah Alisha Edwards, Xoria V. Guidry, Taylor M. Hall, Ka’Lil K. Spiller and Payton M. Torrence; and freshman Davien Jefferson. RSNO offers 15 industry-based certifications.

AFTER-SCHOOL SCIENCE PROGRAM: Middle school students and their families can participate in the Disease Discovery After-School Program, a free, hands-on STEM program designed for middle school students curious about problem-solving and how real outbreaks are investigated. The program will run Jan. 8, 15, 22 and Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26, 4-6 p.m., at the Old Metairie Library, 2350 Metairie Road in Metairie. Free, but space is limited. bit.ly/Disease-Detectives.

NOCCA: The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts’ culinary arts students and faculty will offer king cakes for purchase Jan. 6 to Feb. 16, including two new king cake collaborations, chef Emeril Lagasse’s Banana Cream Pie King Cake and chef Frank Brigtsen’s Strawberry Tres Leches King Cake.
