New Orleans mayor targets abandoned hospital for demolition

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Mayor Helena Moreno is hitting the ground running, focusing on efficiency and infrastructure improvements in the city.

One major project she wants to begin is the demolition of the former Mercy Hospital that eventually became Lindy Boggs Medical Center in Mid-City, abandoned since Hurricane Katrina.

“It’s just an eyesore to walk by. It’s such a nice neighborhood and to have such a huge eyesore like that as a massive part of it. There’s no reason for it, you know? For there to be a possibility of this actually coming to fruition, that’d be fantastic,” Mid-City resident Robbie Banta said.
