Oil spill shuts down Highway 23 in Belle Chasse; bus routes and traffic heavily impacted

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Louisiana Highway 23 (Belle Chasse Highway) remains partially closed near Jesuit Bend following a multi-vehicle crash that has caused major traffic and school bus delays in Plaquemines Parish.

The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m., according to officials.

The crash involved an oil tanker and a parish dump truck, spilling oil across both sides of the roadway and forcing the highway to close in both directions earlier in the day. Emergency crews responded to the scene to manage the spill and clear the wreckage…
