NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — As many brace for the incoming cold weather, the Office of Homeless Services and Strategy will expand shelter capacity to unhoused residents.
Individuals who are in need of a shelter on the night of Saturday, Jan. 17, contact the city’s non-emergency line at 311. Those who need shelter will be accepted to stay, free of charge, at the following locations:
- New Orleans Mission | 1130 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. | Starts at 4:30 p.m.
- The Salvation Army | 4526 S. Claiborne Ave. | Starts at 4:30 p.m.
- Low Barrier Shelter | 1530 Gravier St. | Starts at 4:30 p.m.
Although no watches or warnings have been issued at this time, residents are encouraged to take the proper safety precautions to protect people and pets in the early morning hours on Sunday, Jan. 18 when frigid temperatures are expected.
