METAIRIE, La. — A fire damaged a top-floor apartment in Metairie Tuesday afternoon, but no one was hurt, according to Jefferson Parish Fire Chief Charles Hudson.
Crews responded to Windmill Creek South Apartments around 1:26 p.m. to reports of smoke coming from a unit on the third floor. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames but were able to contain the fire to a single apartment. Nearby units suffered some smoke and water damage.
“I was in my living room and then I heard a boom and then I started seeing smoke come from my kitchen,” Reginald Smith Jr., a resident at the apartment said. “I went to my next door neighbor’s house, and I saw the smoke coming from their place. The fire was pretty big, it was really thick. I went and started banging on my other neighbors’ doors and stuff.”…
