New Orleans East’s troubled Willows Apartments fail to sell at auction with $5M starting price

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Willows apartment complex in New Orleans East went up for public auction Friday. Despite no one bidding on the property — which has been the subject of a number of FOX 8 Defenders investigations — community stakeholders say they’re hopeful someone will take over soon and clean up the place.

Nearly four years after we first exposed how tenants were living inside The Willows apartments, U.S. marshals held a public auction Friday morning to try to find a new owner for the property, owned by a religious nonprofit from Tennessee.

The price? A little over $5 million…
