A French Quarter business owner who also hosted Egyptian food pop-ups across New Orleans lost his family home in a fire Thursday morning.
Khaled Hegazzi, 57, awoke at around 4:30 a.m. to the sound of his dog scratching at his bedroom door. He got up to take him outside but quickly realized the dog was alerting him to the blaze.
“I’m walking with him to the outside and see the whole porch and the side of the house on fire,” Hegazzi said of his Filmore-area home. “It didn’t feel like I could do anything else but just run.”…
