Man pleads guilty to fatal drugging in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man pled guilty Monday, Feb. 2 to a fatal drugging.

According to the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, Shawn Strickler was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 30 years in prison. He administered a fatal dose of clonazolom, an illicit designer sedative, to Zachary Hovsepian that resulted in his death.

District Attorney Jason Williams warned the public to watch out for clonazalom. It can suppress memory and awareness and “suppress the body’s ability to fight back.” Williams urged people to be aware as carnival season intensifies.

“This plea holds him accountable for his acts in our city that claimed Zach’s young life and endangered many others,” Williams said, “But it also forces us to confront a much broader and more dangerous reality.”…
