NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – More than a dozen law enforcement agencies announced a new task force to combat organized crime in the New Orleans region during a press conference at the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The task force will focus on international and transnational drug cartels and organized crime, according to officials. NOPD Chief Ann Kirkpatrick, Attorney General Liz Merrill and representatives from Homeland Security, ATF, DEA, the Marshal’s Office, State Police, the National Guard and other agencies attended the announcement.
Operation NOLA Safe results
Officials announced accomplishments from Operation NOLA Safe, which resulted in 175 arrests and the seizure of over 114 firearms. The operation also led to the seizure of over 120 kilograms of drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana.
Task force mission
The long-term task force will work to stop the flow of drugs and human trafficking into the greater New Orleans region, officials said.
