Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office sees high conviction rates at start of year

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — It’s been a strong, successful start to 2026 in prosecuting suspected murderers, according to the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office.

In the first six weeks of the year, District Attorney Jason Williams said his office secured a 100 percent conviction rate and 18 homicide convictions by guilty pleas.

Williams said this homicide unit has “outperformed” its previous records in prior years.

“Our homicide unit is our flagship unit,” Williams said. “This is a unit that we all look to. This is a standard we hold ourselves to across this entire office. We built it in the middle of a crisis to meet a critical moment in this city, and it’s proven efficient.”…
