The Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office has formally charged a Detroit woman in a Gretna traffic crash the claimed the life of an 83-year-old grandfather of seven.
Melissa Sapp, 40, was charged with manslaughter in the death of Joseph Burke, Jefferson Parish court records said. She pleaded not guilty on Friday.
Burke, of Gretna, was a retired master chief petty officer who served 27 years in the U.S. Navy before spending another 15 years as a commissary manager, according to his obituary…
