METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — Jefferson Parish law enforcement and emergency personnel were on the scene of a train crash in Metairie on Thursday, Feb. 19.
Water main break reported in Jefferson Parish
According to a Facebook post by Councilman Scott Walker, a vehicle was hit by a train at the Metairie Road crossing.
According to Jefferson Parish officials, one person was taken to a local hospital. The roadway has since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
WGNO spoke to witnesses of the crash and its immediate aftermath. They described a scary scene that they say could have turned out much worse.
“I heard the train horn, usually it doesn’t do it that many times. So I ran up to the front and there was a car stuck between the arms, and the train came and hit the back side of it, and it turned the car to its side,” Vincent said. “The train stopped and all these bystanders came and they’re worrying about the car. I could kind of see a person’s arm just kind of waving back and forth, and I could see the airbag.”…
