Louisiana man arrested Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street, charged with gun and drug crimes

NEW ORLEANS, La. (KLFY) — A Breaux Bridge man is facing gun and drug charges after being arrested on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on Mardi Gras, officials said.

Talaska Demouchet, 23, of Breaux Bridge, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a machine gun, possession of marijuana, negligent carrying of a firearm, violating concealed carry law and illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of drugs.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents were on patrol at about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday on the 500 block of Bourbon St. when they allegedly observed Demouchet smoking marijuana. Agents made contact with Demouchet and found him in possession of 22.6 grams of suspected marijuana, a 9mm pistol and 33 9mm bullets, authorities said.Investigators said the pistol possessed an automatic sear device, commonly known as a “switch,” allowing the weapon to become fully automatic.
