Towering Warehouse District Fire Chokes Downtown New Orleans

A massive fire tore through a section of New Orleans’ Warehouse District on Sunday morning near the intersection of Girod and Commerce streets, sending thick black smoke over downtown and drawing a fast, heavy response from city firefighters. Police and emergency crews quickly shut down nearby streets as teams worked to contain the blaze and hold onlookers at a safe distance. As of early Sunday, officials had not confirmed any injuries or identified a cause.
