Firefighters battle blaze at unoccupied commercial building in Downtown New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans firefighters put out a fire Sunday morning at a vacant commercial building on South Peters Street.

The fire department was called to the 600 block of South Peters Street around 6:10 a.m. Firefighters arrived six minutes later and found flames coming through the roof of an unoccupied single-story building.

Smoke could be seen across the horizon for miles. Entergy crews were also on the scene. As of 9:00 a.m., power is out to about 200 Entergy customers along Julia Street and parts of Magazine Street, according to Entergy’s outage map…
