Boil water advisory lifted following large water main break in Uptown leads to flooded streets

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for a parts of Uptown New Orleans following a large water main break that left some streets shut down.

Part of I-12 closed due to forest fire near Lacombe

The eastbound lanes of South Claiborne Avenue from Louisiana Avenue to General Taylor Street are closed due to flooding caused by a 48-inch break near S. Claiborne Avenue and Toledano Street, according to officials with NOLA Ready.

The precautionary advisory is in effect for residents in the area of:

  • Carrollton Avenue from I-10 (Pontchartrain Expressway) to Mississippi River
  • I-10 (Pontchartrain Expressway) from Carrollton Avenue to Mississippi River
  • Mississippi River from Carrollton Avenue to Pontchartrain Expressway

At 10 a.m., the advisory was expanded to a large portion of the East Bank between S. Claiborne, the river, Canal Street and Pontchartrain Expressway.

Sewerage and Water Board officials issued the advisory following instructions from the Louisiana Department of Health because water pressure fell below 20 psi.

Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, Executive Director Randy Hayman said, “Hopefully once the tests come back tomorrow the boil water advisory can be lifted by tomorrow, but that’s determined by the biology of the situation.”…
