Another longtime Winn-Dixie is set to close as Aldi rapidly expands across New Orleans

After more than a decade in New Orleans’ Mid-City, the Winn-Dixie on North Carrollton Avenue will close and convert to an Aldi, the latest step in the German supermarket’s expansion across Louisiana.

The Winn-Dixie Company, formerly Southeastern Grocers, confirmed that the store at 401 North Carrollton Ave. will close in late March. Employees were notified in advance and will have the first opportunity to apply for positions at the new Aldi, the company said.

The Mid-City store will be Aldi’s fifth location in the New Orleans metropolitan area and its 33rd in Louisiana. The company did not say when the store is expected to open. Aldi did not immediately respond to a request for comment…
