New Orleans launches first-ever diversion program to help offenders avoid charges

NEW ORLEANS — For some folks in New Orleans, a mistake won’t automatically mean a criminal record or jail time. Instead, the city is offering a second chance.

“It’s a first-time program for New Orleans Municipal and Traffic Court and I think it’s long overdue,” said Chief Deputy City Attorney at Municipal and Traffic Court Demetrie Ford, Sr.
