WALLACE, La. (WGNO) — Before the Civil War, there were hundreds of plantations along the Mississippi River.
In 2014, The Whitney Plantation opened it’s doors as the first museum dedicated to the history of slavery and the workforce that powered these plantations.
According to Whitney’s Director of Research, Dr. Ibrahima Seck, “We don’t just focus on deportation, hard labor, mistreatment, we go beyond all that to see how these people who were enslaved here and all over the south, how they built the foundations of the economies and also contributed tremendously to defining the culture.”…
