Police on Monday arrested a man in Jefferson Parish who they accused of operating as a member of the MS-13 gang in his home country of Honduras before illegally entering the U.S. nine years ago.
The man, identified in a U.S. Department of Homeland Security press release as Edgar Vixney Hernandez-Velasquez, was detained in Metairie following a Homeland Security Investigations probe that found he was “a known MS-13 gang member,” officials said.
Hernandez-Velasquez was found to have entered the U.S. illegally in 2017 and had a final order of removal, according to federal officials. DHS’ press release did not provide additional details of his immigration history or alleged ties to the gang known as Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13…
