New Orleans City Park receives $2M to continue park improvements. See what’s getting a makeover.

New Orleans City Park’s old stable turned storage facility had been a shell of its former self for years before Hurricane Katrina, though the 2005 storm dealt it a death blow.

But the blighted Old Corral building near the Interstate 610 underpass will soon anchor a public gathering space and educational hub, thanks to a $2 million donation from the Samuel Barton Stewart Memorial III Foundation.

The renovation, which when finished will house a space where visitors can learn about water, stormwater management and shoreline restoration, is part of a list of projects shaping up in the six months since park officials adopted a formal improvement plan for New Orleans’ largest public greenspace…
