Flooding on Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans closes part of the street, stalls four cars

Severe flash flooding has closed Lakeshore Drive from Seabrook Bridge to West End Boulevard on Thursday morning, according to New Orleans city officials.

Flooding has reached up to 3 feet in some areas along Lake Pontchartrain, according to the Orleans Levee District Police Department. Four cars stalled in the high waters and their drivers had to be rescued, according to police.

Videos showed water pouring onto land, covering nearby trees and flooding public restrooms along the 8000 block of Lakeshore Drive. Flooding is common in the Lakefront and Seabrook areas when strong northerly winds push water onto the land…
