Former New Orleans police officer guilty of simple battery of ex-wife, acquitted on felony counts

A Jefferson Parish jury acquitted a former New Orleans police officer on five felony charges related to allegations he severely beat his former wife, but found him guilty on a lesser charge of simple battery.

Larry King Jr., 53, was charged with domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury, cruelty to the infirm, domestic abuse by strangulation, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and illegal use of a firearm, all felonies.

Instead, jurors downgraded one of the domestic abuse counts, finding him guilty of a misdemeanor offense that carries no more than 6 months in jail…
