Deadly Gunfire Rocks Algiers Corner Of Socrates And Brooklyn

A man was killed, and another person was wounded Monday in Algiers on the West Bank, according to New Orleans police, after gunfire broke out and turned a neighborhood intersection into a crime scene. Officers arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds, and detectives have now opened a homicide investigation.

WWL‑TV reports that the shooting happened at the intersection of Socrates Street and Brooklyn Avenue. One of the victims was taken to a hospital, where he later died, while the second man was also hospitalized and remains under medical care, according to the station.

Police response

Detectives from the NOPD homicide division responded to the intersection and began canvassing the area, speaking with neighbors and searching for surveillance footage and other evidence, according to WWL. Police have not released any suspect description or possible motive and say they will share more as the investigation moves forward.
