Artist, deputies seek painting stolen from Arabi gallery

ARABI, La. (WVUE) -A local artist and investigators are asking for help finding a large painting stolen from a gallery. St. Bernard Parish deputies say it is worth more than $7,000, but its creator says its value cannot be measured by money alone.

“This is the reason why I started painting in 2020, because I wanted to paint New Orleans oak trees. And I’ve been doing studies, and drawings and making my way to bigger pieces. This is the biggest one I’ve done,” said Sabrina Schmidt.

Sometime between Saturday evening (March 21) and Sunday morning (March 22), Sabrina Schmidt says the large landscape painting, called “Dueling Oak,” was stolen from an art gallery in the old Ford plant in Arabi.
