New Orleans restaurant giving away Easter family meals

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — For those in the service industry, the term family meal has a specific meaning.

“Which is when we all eat together between services, so we have full bellies when you go into the busy service,” says Amanda Toups, who owns Toups’ Meatery along with her husband, Isaac.

They are on a mission to bring that familial spirit outside the walls of the restaurant. It all started during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they decided to feed the people in their industry who were suddenly out of work.

“It was all service industry in the beginning, and then a mother pulled up with her three children and said, ‘You don’t have to feed me, but will you feed my kids?’ and we went, ‘What?’ And we opened it up to everybody,” says Toups…
