Louisiana lawmakers advance bill allowing legislative removal of ‘incompetent’ state judges

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Louisiana State Senate passed a bill Monday (March 30) that could ultimately allow state lawmakers to remove elected judges they deem incompetent.

State Sen. Jay Morris (R-West Monroe) wrote the bill, citing several high-profile cases including the shooting of University of New Orleans student Noah Hansard in Lake Terrace three years ago, the killing of French Quarter tour guide Kristie Gioe Thibodeaux and the killing of tourist Jacob Carter in the Marigny.

“This is one of the few bills I can say that we can pass to keep people from dying. Because people have died because of malfeasance in office,” Morris said.
