Gunman convicted in New Orleans shootout that killed comedian ‘Boogie B’ sentenced to 15 years

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – One of two men accused of a shootout that inadvertently killed a comedic social media personality outside a New Orleans grocery store in December 2022 was sentenced Monday (April 6) to 15 years in prison.

Charles Cannon, 25, accepted an agreement offered last month from the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office that allowed him to plead guilty to aggravated criminal damage to property and discharging a firearm in public.

Authorities say Cannon engaged in a shootout with 23-year-old Jabrill Cowart outside the Rouse’s Market at 701 Baronne St. on Dec. 23, 2022. Comedian Brandon “Boogie B” Montrell, a popular TikTok and Instagram personality who returned home from Los Angeles to visit family for Christmas, was struck by gunfire while inside a car and died in the parking lot.

Cowart is scheduled to be tried in August for second-degree murder…
