A chaotic early-morning scene on Bourbon Street ended with a painful surprise Sunday, when a 42-year-old man discovered hours later that he had actually been shot, according to New Orleans police.
New Orleans Police say the man was in the 300 block of Bourbon Street in the French Quarter during a disturbance at about 3:30 a.m. Officers responded, but the man refused treatment at the scene and went on his way. Later that morning, he started feeling pain in his knee and went to a hospital at roughly 11:40 a.m., where medical staff determined he had a gunshot wound.
Once the injury was confirmed, police reclassified the incident as an aggravated assault by shooting and opened a full investigation. Detectives are still working to determine exactly when and how the man was hit…
