‘He was well loved’ Second Line held for Michael Garcia days after fatal shooting

NEW ORLEANS — Brass music filled the streets of the Marigny Saturday afternoon, replacing the sound of police sirens that had echoed just minutes away in the St. Claude neighborhood four days earlier.

Friends and loved ones gathered outside Brieux Carré, where a second line began in honor of 41‑year‑old Michael Garcia. Many described the gathering as a reflection of how Garcia lived — surrounded by community, joy, and connection.

“He hung out here all the time,” said Susan Law, a friend of Garcia’s. “That’s why he decided I needed to come here and have a drink with him on Monday.”…
