Jesuit-Rummel winner clinches district title as fast-working pitcher overcomes early struggles

After each pitch, Maes Martin quickly took the return throw from the catcher and stepped back onto the rubber.

Now with a lead and the district title on the line in the sixth, the senior right-hander wasted little time between pitches. He shouted toward his team’s dugout after each out. When he got the third out on a swinging strikeout, he ran his right hand across the blue “Jesuit” on the front of his pinstriped jersey as he yelled in excitement on his way to the first-base dugout.

“I was just really fired up,” Martin said. “I knew that once we had the lead, we were in the driver’s seat.”…
