New Orleans East residents concerned over smell, discharge flowing into Dwyer Canal

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — For months, New Orleans East residents said they’ve been frustrated by the foul smell emanating from the Dwyer Canal.

“I have documented all the 22 points of infrastructure failure, from Lurline to Reed Boulevard, not only on my own documentation, but 45 water complaints and following up with lead complaints as well,” climate justice organizer Sage Pellet said.

During Tuesday’s Public Works meeting, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans said it continues to conduct sample testing, which has already identified seven defects…
