NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Since French Quarter Fest kicked off Thursday (April 16), the thousands of people in attendance got to spread out a bit more than usual, with a new public space recently added to the Mississippi Riverfront.
At the base of Esplanade Avenue, at the site of the former Governor Nicholls Street wharf, now sits a new addition to Goldring-Woldenberg Park — with a repurposed wharf for covered open space, new elevated lawns, shaded areas and seating, and even a new playground with a climbable alligator, fish and more.
