For their 2025 album “Second Line Sunday,” New Breed Brass Band and Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews wanted to capture the feeling of hitting the streets on a Sunday with a social aid and pleasure club.
The musicians of New Breed, which started in 2013, have played many second lines over the years, and there was careful thought put to the order of the songs.
“We were going for the vibes we feel at a second line,” says snare drummer and bandleader Jenard Andrews. “How it may start off, how when we get to this point in the second line, we cooling down and just vibing. And when we get to this point, we’re doing this. And when we get under the bridge, we’re going up. (If) somebody was going to a second line, that would be the roller coaster ride of it.”…
