Ricard was known to have “a great love” for St. Augustine High School, that started when he served as pastor of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in 1960. For years, St. Aug. officials says he advocated for a strong Josephite presence at the school.

He was also instrumental in ensuring the school had the needed resources to fulfill its Catholic mission of educating young men to be prepared for the world.

“As a great leader, Bishop Ricard was a committed mentor to scores of young black men considering vocation to the priesthood. He provided strong leadership to the catholic church in numerous positions of service.

Please keep the entire Josephite Society, St. Augustine High School and Bishop Ricard’s family in your prayers. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. “…
