Driver Blames Protesters For Causing Him to Hit a Woman, Charged With Assault

Father’s Day is supposed to be a day of barbecues and bad neckties. Outside Newark’s Delaney Hall immigration detention center on June 21, 2026, things went a different direction. A man who works at the facility struck a woman with his car while pulling into the property, and the incident was caught on video that spread rapidly online over the weekend.

The driver, Thomas K. Brown, 38, of Newark, was later identified by detectives and charged with assault by auto, along with a traffic summons for reckless driving. The vehicle involved was a red 2023 Dodge Challenger, which, under better circumstances, is a perfectly respectable muscle car.
