Motorists and pedestrians traveling near the George Washington Bridge will face long-term traffic changes beginning Aug. 14 as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey begins the next phase of its $2 billion bridge rehabilitation program.
Beginning Aug. 14 and continuing through December 2026, the right lanes and sidewalk on the northbound Center Avenue bridge over the George Washington Bridge approach in Fort Lee will be closed for rehabilitation, according to the Port Authority.
The project also includes the closure of the ramp from New Jersey-bound Interstate 95 to Center Avenue and the ramp from Center Avenue to New York-bound I-95. Construction will be completed in phases to keep two travel lanes open throughout the project, officials said.
