These carts include new smart technology that would allow customers to scan their groceries and products as they shop.

They were recently introduced at the ShopRite of Brookdale store on 1409 Broad St. in Bloomfield, around 10 miles north of Newark, according to NJ.com.

The carts’ two-step process could change the role of self-checkout machines in stores.

Firstly, the top four corners of the cart have black sensors, with arrows pointing them out, for shoppers to scan a product.

Then customers can place the item inside the cart after they hear a beep and the lights around the sensors turn green.
