NYPD traffic agent punched in the face in Manhattan: police

KIPS BAY, Manhattan (PIX11) — A man allegedly punched an NYPD traffic agent in the face on a Manhattan street Monday morning, police said.

Gilbert Nelson, 62, is accused of attacking the traffic agent for writing him a summons near East 30th Street and Second Avenue in Kips Bay at around 7:20 a.m., according to the NYPD. The NYPD employee was hospitalized with facial injuries.

Nelson was apprehended near the scene and charges were pending, police said.

The incident occurred in the neighborhood patrolled by the 19th Precinct, where there has been a 13% increase in misdemeanor assaults this year compared to 2023, according to NYPD stats.
