Friday marked 10 years since the lives of detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were tragically cut short. Members of the NYPD’s choir sang inside Saints Church in Queens, as loved ones gathered to remember them. The pair was fatally shot on Dec. 20, 2014, while sitting in their patrol car in Bed-Stuy. “It’s hard to imagine that it’s even been 10 years. It feels like it happened yesterday,” said Detective Jose Falero, a longtime friend of Detective Ramos. “The pain has been incredible.” Mayor Eric Adams recalled getting the call while serving as Brooklyn Borough president. He said even though this time of the year is one of joy, it’s also a time of great sadness. “It’s a time when we ask ourselves how could something so horrific happen to two young men,” Adams said. While the widows of both Ramos and Liu talked about some of the things they miss the most about their husbands, Detective Liu’s daughter Angelina wanted everyone to know how she feels about her father. “I love my daddy very much and I am so proud of my daddy,” she said. Ten years after their lives were taken, family and friends say the pain never gets better but they’re thankful for the time they had together and the chance to celebrate their memories. ”
