MANHATTAN, N.Y. — An Italian tourist escaped Friday after he was kidnapped and tortured in a Manhattan apartment for several weeks, according to police sources.
The 28-year-old man ran out of the apartment near Mulberry and Prince streets and flagged an on-duty traffic agent for help at around 9:37 a.m., sources said.

He told the agent he was assaulted. Sources said the tourist, who arrived in New York City earlier this month, was tied up and pistol-whipped.
A woman who lives a block from the scene said she saw police escort a man in a white robe with handcuffs out of the building. The rent in that building is around $30,000 a month, she said…
