NY social worker stole $500K from 95-year-old client with dementia: Attorney General

NEW YORK (PIX11) – A New York social worker pleaded guilty to stealing more than $500,000 from a 95-year-old client with dementia.

The social worker regularly used the victim’s ATM card at local casinos without permission, officials said. Westchester social worker Chantel Chenault pleaded guilty to the charge of grand larceny in the second degree, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Wednesday.

“Elderly New Yorkers deserve trustworthy caretakers allowing them to live their later years in dignity and security,” said James. “Chantel Chenault abused her position to steal a vulnerable woman’s retirement savings, and my office is bringing her to justice. I will continue to go after anyone who tries to manipulate or steal from seniors in need.”

According to an investigation conducted by the office of the attorney general from March 2017 to June 2022, Chenault used the victim’s bank card to withdraw hundreds of thousands of dollars from her checking account…
