Manhattan driver caught with 76 propane tanks in van: DA

NEW YORK (WPIX) — A man accused of driving with dozens of propane tanks allegedly left the scene after his food truck detached from his van and crashed into a vehicle in Manhattan on Tuesday, authorities said.

Sayed Khaled Elsayed Abdelmohsen was driving down West 42nd Street near Tenth Avenue when his halal truck separated from his white cargo van and hit a Kia Sorrento at around 7 p.m., prosecutors said. The truck was badly damaged.

But Abdelmohsen allegedly kept driving until police officers pulled him over. When the cops approached the van, they smelled a strong odor of gasoline and called the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).

Abdelmohsen tried to toss his keys, saying he couldn’t unlock the van, but fire officials found 76 20-pound propane cylinders and around 75 gallons of gasoline and 10 gallons of diesel in the back of the white van, prosecutors said.

Authorities said the driver did not have the necessary permit to transport these materials.

Abdelmohsen was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, leaving the scene of the incident without reporting property damage, and unlicensed driving, officials said…
