Man Indicted for Attempted Murder Following Violent Stabbing at West Harlem Subway Station

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., has announced the indictment of 58-year-old Victor Solis on charges stemming from a violent stabbing at a West Harlem subway station this past July. Solis is facing one count of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of assault in the first degree, and two counts of assault in the second degree, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

In a turn of events that rattled commuters and showcased an act of unexpected violence, the assault left a 56-year-old man with life-threatening injuries—wounds to his neck, left shoulder, and chest, amongst other areas—as he was making his way home from work on July 1. DA Bragg described the attack as “brutal” and commended the efforts of bystanders whose timely intervention both saved the victim’s life and helped detain the alleged assailant.

The incident unfolded at approximately 4:00 p.m. at the West 125th Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue subway station. Reports claim Solis punched the victim in the back of the head and then, as the victim turned to face his attacker, Solis purportedly produced a serrated knife and proceeded to stab him multiple times.
