Random attack on rabbi in New Jersey was not deemed a hate crime

BERGENFIELD, N.J. (PIX11) — Police in Bergenfield, New Jersey, are increasing patrols, following a random violent attack against a rabbi outside his home on Sunday.

“What happened yesterday really shook our community,” said Bergenfield Mayor Arvin Armatorio.

According to Bergenfield Police, Rabbi Avraham Wein was with his wife outside their home on Sussex Avenue when a man pulled over, got out of his car, and started attacking Wein.

“We have reports he was on the phone having a heated discussion,” said Bergenfield Police Chief Mustafa Rabboh. “We don’t know what led to him coming out of the vehicle and attacking the rabbi.”…
