ArchCare opens new PACE center in NYC, offering expansive resources for older adults

For older adults who are looking for an alternative to aging in an institutional setting, the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) offers a home-based option that allows them to stay connected to their community. ArchCare, the healthcare system of the Archdiocese of New York, has partnered with PACE since 2012 and currently has four centers. The newest one recently opened in East Harlem.

“We have had a PACE center in East Harlem for over 10 years and we’ve been at capacity with roughly 250 participants at that center,” ArchCare President and Chief Executive Officer Scott LaRue told McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse. “The new center that we built has the capacity to serve up to 500 individuals so we’re going to be able to double the capacity in East Harlem.”

The new center’s amenities include a 1950s-style diner, a theater, a laundromat, a library, a chapel and more. LaRue described the center as looking like a typical American main street, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. He also notes the impressive array of choices that the center provides participants, whether it’s engaging in an activity or simply enjoying a quiet space by themselves.
