Man dies at Rikers Island after apparent allergic reaction, officials say

A man being held on murder charges at the Rikers Island jail complex died early Monday morning after what appeared to be an allergic reaction, according to Department of Correction officials.

The department said Kyron Randall, 33, was transferred from Rikers’ George R. Vierno Center to Elmhurst Hospital around 12:10 p.m Sunday. Doctors attempted to provide life-saving care, but he was pronounced dead shortly before 1 a.m., according to the department.

The correction department said no official cause of death has yet been determined, and so far no staff has been disciplined in the incident. Correction Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie said in a statement Randall’s death would be “thoroughly investigated,” and expressed condolences to Randall’s family…
