NYC couple convicted of murder in day care fentanyl overdose case

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A couple was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for murdering a 1-year-old boy and exposing three other babies to fentanyl while running a drug mill out of an at-home day care center, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Wednesday, after the sentencing hearing in the New York Supreme Court.

Grei Mendez, 38, and Felix Herrera-Garcia, 37, were found guilty of second-degree murder, as well as second-degree assault, on Nov. 21, 2025.

The couple was convicted after four children overdosed at their facility, El Divino Niño, in September 2023. One of the four children, 22-month-old Nicholas Dominici, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
