At 1:30 p.m., firefighters responded to 154 Summit Ave. and encountered a working fire, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokesperson for the mayor’s office said. Firefighters safely removed 3 people while simultaneously working to contain the fire and prevent further extension, Wallace-Scalfione said. Two people were rescued out of a window on the second floor and brought to the ground by an aerial ladder, Wallace-Scalfione said.
Four residents were transported to a local hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, Wallace-Scalfione said. One cat and one dog were also rescued by firefighters, Wallace-Scalfione said. One fire captain fell and struck his head and was transported to a hospital, Wallace-Scalfione said.
